Robert Dumvill went from Belfast, Ireland to South Carolina in about 1770. He and his nephew Richard lived on adjacent farms in Kershaw County, South Carolina until about 1800 when they moved to Grainger County, Tennessee. They lived there for about ten years. Robert went to Ste Genevieve County, Missouri and on to Hempstead County, Arkansas, where he died.
Robert had three daughters that were born in South Carolina. According to family legend these were by his second wife, Mary McGill. Robert was a farmer, land speculator and a Methodist Preacher. He was a veteran of the Revolutionary War.

Richard Andrew Dumvill went from Belfast, Ireland to South Carolina to live with his uncle Robert Dumvill (c1735-1819) in about 1773, when Richard Andrew Dumvill's father remarried. He and his uncle Robert lived on adjacent farms in Kershaw County, South Carolina until about 1800 when they moved to Grainger County, Tennessee. They lived there for about ten years. Richard went to what is now Webster County, Kentucky, where he lived until his death.
Richard Andrew Dumvill was a farmer, a weaver and a pioneer Methodist Preacher.

His father Richard Andrew Dumvill moved the family to Grainger County, Tennessee in 1802 and on to what is now Webster County, Kentucky in 1814. Richard Andrew Dumvill Jr and his four sisters spent the rest of their lives in this area.
Richard Andrew Dumvill Jr owned many slaves and several thousand acres of bottom land along the Green River near Slaughters, Kentucky. Most of this land was swampland that he cleared and drained with slave labour. His obituary states 'he was considered to be the wealthiest man in Hopkins and Webster County'. Several of his descendants still live on portions of this farm. He was 6'2" tall and weighed about 225 pounds. He was a Methodist.
